Northern Morocco Tour: A 8-Day Journey Through Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fez, Meknes, and Marzouga and Ouarzazat ,Marrakech
Day 1: Tangier – Tetouan – Chefchaouen (2-Hour Drive)
Your adventure starts with a pickup from your hotel, port, or airport in Tangier. Enjoy a scenic drive to Chefchaouen, with an optional stop in Tetouan for a few hours of exploration or choose the panoramic route along the Mediterranean coast and through stunning gorges. Upon arriving in Chefchaouen, settle into your charming riad within the medina, freshen up, and stroll through this fairy-tale village. End your day with a delightful dinner and a restful overnight stay.
Day 2: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Moulay Idriss – Fes (4-Hour Drive)
Today, your Northern Morocco Tour takes you to the ancient imperial city of Fes. Depart from Chefchaouen, winding through the Rif Mountains. Around noon, reach the Roman ruins of Volubilis for a guided tour. Have lunch in Moulay Idriss with a view overlooking the ruins. Alternatively, linger in Chefchaouen for a relaxed morning before departing directly for Fes after lunch. Arrive in Fes in the late afternoon, drop off your luggage at the riad, and enjoy a leisurely evening stroll. Dinner and accommodation will be at a riad inside the medina.
Day 3: Fes – City Tour
A full day is dedicated to exploring Fes, the most ancient of Morocco’s imperial cities, renowned for its leather and metalwork, Koranic medersas, and leather tanneries. Wander through the 9500 derbs (narrow alleys), absorbing the myriad sounds, smells, and sights that conjure the quintessential fabled Arab city, reminiscent of Baghdad during the time of the 1001 nights. A local English-speaking guide will lead you through this historic city. Dinner is on your own, with accommodation as per the previous night.
Day 4: Fes to Marzouga
at 8:00 a.m. We travel to Midelt through the Middle Atlas Mountains and cedar forests. We pass through Ifrane, also known as “Little Switzerland” because of its European architecture, weather, and cleanliness. Then to Azrou, a significant handicraft center specializing in cedar woodwork. We arrive in Midelt, the apple capital, for lunch. We’ll drive to Erfoud and into the desert in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight in a hotel near the Erg Chebbi Sahara dunes.
Day 5: Merzouga Desert – Nomads Families – Tisardmin Oasis – Khamlia Village – Erg Chebb
This is a complete Desert day. “Date with the sunrise” If you are In the middle of the desert, it`s absolutely worth getting up early to contemplate the most spectacular sunrise you´ve ever seen at the top of a dune close to the camp and enjoy this landscape that is a gift of nature. After sunrise we return to Merzouga on the camels where a hearty breakfast is waiting for us. Then we`ll skirt the Erg Chebbi,great extension of sandy desert where we can find the Big Dune of Morocco. which has more than 250mts high. We continue then by the road that was formerly used for the “Paris – Dakar” and ends in the mountains that limit with Agelia. Stop at Tissardmin oasis where we can find fossil quarries still present in the area, we continue then by a road where we can see nomad settlements and learn their secrets and manners. The next stop will be at a viewpoint to contemplate the hole Erg Chebbi. We`ll reach then Kamilia Village, originally from Mali, where we´ll take a relaxing cup of tea meanwhile we listen to a concert of the spiritual music of Gnawa. Settle into your comfortable tent for a night in the desert.
Enjoy the tranquility of the desert and the sounds of the night.
Day 6: Merzouga Desert – Rissani Market – Erfoud Fossil’s – Todra Gorges – Dadés Valley – Dades Gorges
We leave the desert after breakfast to go to Rissani where we`ll visit the market place (market days: tuesday, thursday and saturday), we continue then to Erfoud where we can visit the manufactures of fossilized marble before starting our way to Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves. One hour later we´ll reach one of the best places of the High Atlas, the Todra Gorges. The course of the river has carved out cliff-sided canyon and it´s because of its beauty and the high rock sides that´s very popular among climbers.Free time to have lunch in this wonderful place. A short walk through the gorges is very advisable to better appreciate the beauty of the landscape.In the afternoon we continue to the Dadès valley, also known as the figs valley going through Boumalne Dadés we`ll stop at the “monkey legs”.Dinner and night at the Dadès gorges.
Day 7: Dades Gorges – Roses Valley – Palm Groves of Skoura – Ouarzazat
after breakfast we can enjoy one of the better views of the Dadès valley from one strategic lookout in the mountains, from there we can appreciate the great number of kasbahs and the scenic characteristics of each one. Then we continue by a road dot with different kasbahs of touristic interest. After some stops to enjoy the “One thousand kasbahs road”. the Roses Valley an the big Skoura palm grove we`ll get to Ouarzazate to visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, old residence of the Glaoui or Marrakech pasha. And if you are interested we can visit the cinema studios and tue cinema museum.Free time for lunch in town.In the afternoon we start our way to reach the ksar (fortified village) of Ait Ben Haddou where we will visit the famous Kasbah (declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986). Famous films have been shot in this spectacular stage, including Gladiator , Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Sahara with Penélope Cruz…etc. Dinner at kasabah where we´ll spend the night.
Day8: Ait Ben Haddou To Marrakech
After breakfast, we will travel to Marrakech via the Tizi ntichka road, passing through Telouat to spend some time at the Telouat Kasabah, than continue our way to Marrakech .
