From the rooftop terrace of your city palace, lose yourself in the endless labyrinth of alleys as the sun sets. Dinner. (B/D)

Day 5: Fès – The Center of Handicrafts

In Fès, you’ll experience artisan craftsmanship up close: visit potters’ workshops where beautiful mosaics are made, and see tanners working in the traditional way. In the madrasas (Qur’anic schools), you can admire the artisans’ craftsmanship in all its perfection. Be careful in the busy streets when a donkey laden with goods tries to overtake you! (B)

Day 6:Over the Middle Atlas

Today, you will cross the Middle Atlas on your way south. In the cedar forests, Barbary macaques, always on the lookout for food, invite you to stop. As you head further south, the landscape becomes more barren, and you’ll see the first palm oases in the Ziz Valley. You will spend the night in the clay village of Khorbat, in a ksar where a hotel has been built. Refresh yourself in the pool or take a stroll. (B/D)

Start with an interesting tour of the small, notable museum before driving along the Road of the Kasbahs, as the clay fortresses are called, to the Dades Valley. The road winds through the spectacular landscape of the High Atlas in tight hairpin bends. A short hike takes you to the “Monkey Fingers,” a rock formation. Dinner. (B/D)

Day 8:Rugged Mountains of the Djebel Saghro

Today, you will cross the Djebel Saghro mountain range from Boumalne du Dades to Nkob. At Bab’n Ali, a formation of two rock towers, you will hike through the rugged landscape, marveling at how the Aït Atta people survive here with their livestock. Day 10:Sky over the Desert

Enjoy a relaxed morning with optional excursions. If open, you can visit a women’s cooperative in Mhamid that produces date jam. Or perhaps you’d like to see how the desert sand is slowly burying the Ksar Bonou. A unique highlight of this extraordinary itinerary awaits in the afternoon: switch to off-road vehicles, and your small jeep caravan will head to a fantastic tented camp in the dunes of Erg Chegaga. Accessible only by 4×4, this will transport you into the fairytale world of “1,001 Nights.” Ride camels into the sunset! Under the sparkling desert sky, a delicious meal will be served, followed by sitting around the fire, listening to the traditional Tam-Tam drums.

Day 11: Erg Chigaga (desert)

In the morning it is time to explore more of the desert wonders and the nomads traditions. After breakfast, accompanied by a guide and a camel man, you start your adventure and you go camel trekking
in the wild Sahara; you can walk or ride the camels. Once you arrive in the place where you break for lunch, the guide and the camel man will proudly show you how nomads make tea on coal as well as baking bread in the sand. After spending a fantastic day in the wild Sahara desert, you get ready to go back to the camp where you will stay overnight.

Day 12:Through the Nomads’ Land by 4×4

In your 4×4 vehicles, you will continue westward through Nomads’ Land – this spectacular and rarely traveled route was once part of the famous Paris-Dakar Rally! With some luck, you may meet a nomad family who will invite you for tea. In Foum Zguid, you’ll return to paved roads and wander through the covered alleys of the village. Dinner. (B/D)

Day 13:Film Set Aït Benhaddou

It’s no wonder that Aït Benhaddou was chosen as a film set and recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site: its mud houses cling to a hill on which the Agadir sits. Later, you’ll travel along a narrow road through the dramatic Ounila Valley to Telouet, where you’ll enjoy a magnificent view from its kasbah. Upon arriving in Marrakesh, you’ll dive into the hustle and bustle of Djemaa el Fna square in the evening. Your guide will order a fine selection of Moroccan specialties for dinner! (B/D)
